#AskLíkami: Dry skin vs Dehydrated skin

Sometimes, we say our skin is 'dry' when it is actually 'dehydrated'. And other times, you'll hear skin enthusiasts talk about how dehydrated their skin feels, when they are dealing with dryness.

So, what's the difference?

Put simply, dry skin is caused by a lack of oil and leaves skin feeling tight and flaky whereas dehydrated skin is caused by lack of water and can leave skin dull.

Dry Skin

  • Lacks adequate oil needed to keep the skin silky and soft.
  • It's a skin type that can only be managed and not cured.
  • It can be addressed by applying oils, balms, butters, etc.
  • Appears scaly, flaky, and itchy.

To address dry skin, you should opt for the Likami Healing Balm, Facial Essential Oil Serum, or Body Cream.

Dehydrated skin is connected to water and lack of it in the skin. One of the key differences is that dehydrated skin can actually affect any skin type as it’s related to moisture and often caused by external factors such as weather, environment, diet and diuretics such as caffeine and alcohol. One of the most important factors for healthy, plump skin, is hydration and fine lines and wrinkles can sometimes be a result of lack of moisture in the skin. Dehydrated skin can be helped by products as well as lifestyle adjustments whereas dry skin is more long-term as it’s a skin type.

Dehydrated Skin

  • Lacks adequate moisture.
  • It is a skin condition that is reversible. Usually, it is as a result of lifestyle habits that cause moisture to evaporate from the skin.
  • It can be treated by using moisturizers and liquid based products that contain humectants e.g glycerin, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, etc.
  • Appears uneven, pigmented with dark spots and occasional appearance of dark circles.

To address dehydrated skin, pick the Likami PLUS hydration serum, Facial Intensive Hydrating Cream, Facial Toner, or Body Lotion.
