Have you been using the terms "balm" and "salve" interchangeably when referring to one product? If yes, you're not alone.
Many of us believe that balms and salves are one and the same. But in actual sense, they are quite different.
Let's show you how;
A balm is a semi-solid topical product that is formulated with butter, oils, and a high percentage of wax. Balms are perfect for moisturizing and protecting the skin from harmful elements. Their lush, thick textures make them the perfect occlusive that traps moisture within the surface of the skin.
On the other hand, a salve is a fluffy topical product made of oils and low percentage of wax. Due to their lightweight consistency, they are superb for promoting wound healing, soothing injuries, and pain management. You'll commonly find a salve in an emergency medical kit.
