7 Pro tips to change your skincare from summer to fall
Did you know that when seasons change, so should your skin care routine? 'Fall skin' is usually dealing with multiple issues at once. You have pigmentation from summer sun damage, dullness from dryness or dehydration, breakouts from increased skin congestion from SPF and more oil production in some skin types and redness from seasonal allergies or sensitivity. Although that may sound like a lot, transitioning your skincare routine from summer to fall doesn’t have to be complicated.
Read below how to transition to a fall skincare routine with 7 easy tips.
Go for mild cleansers
Cleansers suitable for summer need to be substituted for gentler formulas during fall season. Naturally, our skin produces less oil during the cool weather and using a harsh cleanser may strip your skin off sebum, leaving dryness and flakiness in its wake.
A recommended cleansing option is to select a milk or oil- based pH-based cleanser that contains mild, soothing ingredients that nourish the skin while keeping it squeaky clean. A good option for maximum moisture retention, is to adopt the 2-part (double) cleansing system with oil followed by a milk cleanser like the Likami Cleansing Oil and Likami Cleansing Milk with yarrow and burdock.
Settle for a hydrating serum
Serums contain concentrated amounts of active ingredients to solve different skin problems. In fall season, you need to opt for a cocktail that deeply hydrates your skin before the dry weather compromises your skin barrier. Star ingredients to improve tired, thirsty skin include hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Hyaluronic acid is a staple ingredient in our Likami PLUS Hydration serum.. Another good example of extra hydration, that is perfect for the cool, dry season is the classic Likami Facial Essential Oil Serum.
Invest in intensive hydrating moisturizers
If you observe dryness as the weather cools down, it is a sign that your skin is lacking moisture. And this calls for one thing - to start using a rich and hydrating moisturizer. When moisturizing your skin, we advise that you opt for products that are nourishing and not just heavy. Why? Thick creams and lotions can congest your pores. Also, they leave a feeling of heaviness on your skin. A great choice is the Likami Intensive Hydrating Cream. For an extra line of defense, layer some drops of the Likami Facial Toner.
Body milks are indispensable
Crispy air can further dry out your skin and that's why it's advisable to stay moisturized from head to toe. Although, people with dry skin are advised to upgrade their moisturizing routines, we recommend a nutritive moisturizer for every skin type - dry, dehydrated, oily, normal, sensitive, and even sensitized skin types.
A rule of thumb is to opt for moisturizing lotions such as the Likami Body Lotion or the Likami Body Cream which contains ingredients such as aloe vera and shea butter that seal the moisture barrier of the skin, preventing water loss.
Exfoliation is key
In fall, your skin may accumulate dead skin build up. And this may weaken your glow if your skin is already dry. The best way to deal is by boosting cell turnover through exfoliation. Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells to reveal smoother and softer skin. Use products which contain ingredients known to enhance cell turnover. Such ingredients include retinol, glycolic acid, lactic acid etc. You'll never go wrong with a gentle exfoliant such as the Likami Face Exfoliant Cream with polylactic and salicylic acid, the Likami PLUS Serum Anti-Aging with retinol or the Likami PLUS Serum Skin Renewal with glycolic acid. Always layer a hydrating moisturizer after using these products.
Moisturize your lips
One of the most neglected parts of our body are the lips. The dry air can make your lips flake easily and no one likes that. Keep your lips moisturized and soft by investing in lip balm that contains Ingredients that create a protective barrier around the lips for hydration. Our favorite ingredients include butters such as cocoa butter and shea butter. A lip balm should be a staple during fall. The Likami Lip Balm is an excellent product for healthy lips for the chilly months. It contains vitamin E, which fights off oxidative stress caused by the weather.
Sun protection is crucial
Even on cool, cloudy days, the sun releases harmful rays that can attack our skin and cause the reactive oxygen species to break down skin cells. Every skincare routine without sun protection is futile - even during fall. You should stay consistent with a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. A good example is the mineral-based Likami Anti-Pollution Shield.
Moving from summer to fall might take your skin some time to adjust. It's not uncommon to notice flakiness, dryness, and even eczema. But with the right products in tow, you can maintain a beautiful glow. With consistent intense hydration and deep nourishment, your skin will blossom through the chilly season.
